As small as possible. The housings of these extra-mini mechanical speedos have a diameter of only 48 mm. They are require a cable drive off the transmission or front wheel.
Instruments are designed by the manufacturer for mounting near the handlebars. Instruments must be mounted in such a way that (engine) heat, vibrations and oscillations cannot be transmitted (rubber mounting is recommended). Electronic instruments must not be mounted near ignition components (erroneous readings are possible, circuit board can be destroyed).
