Standard Magneto Caps

The contact breaker in a magneto ignition cannot function without its partner, the capacitor. The capacitor in the magneto ignition prevents arcing at the contact breaker and thus protects the contact surfaces. Together with the ignition coil, it forms an electrical oscillating circuit that enhances spark generation at the spark plugs.

For an ignition coil to generate the high voltage needed to produce a spark at the spark plugs, the coil’s charging circuit must be interrupted at the correct moment. On magneto ignitions, this is done by a mechanical switch, the contact breaker. Morris contact breakers are distinguished by high quality standards and fit not only Morris magnetos, but also original Fairbanks-Morse type magnetos used on Harley-Davidson Ironhead Sportster models.
