A common problem with classic gas tanks - mostly difficult to correct and sometimes dangerous - is a leaking fuel valve due to distorted tanks and misaligned fuel valves. This period looking conversion kit for the 1940-1965 thru-the-tank gas valve helps to resolve this issue quickly and easily. The insert replaces the stock valve seat and accepts most 1/8” NPT, 1/4” NPT or 22 mm petcocks at the bottom. The rod is omitted, the crossover line can be retained. With the included cap you close the top of the tank. Now you can park your bike with peace of mind and without a gas puddle underneath.

These small petcocks fit direct to either a 1/4" or 3/8" NPT bung on your gas tank. This keeps your gas tank looking very clean. They feature a 5/16" diameter hose barb on one end and a fuel filter on the other. The manufacturer recommends 1/4" ID fuel line for a snug, leak proof fit. Rotating the cylindrical piece with the two grooves is how the fuel is toggled on and off. No reserve. Length measured without hose barb and filter.

Nobody's perfect. There is no part on the Harley-Davidson that cannot be changed or even improved. This also applies to the fuel valve. There are several reasons for this: the limit of the standard fuel valves is often the passage. With a free-breathing air cleaner, performance cam and unrestricted exhaust, the flow of the tap may not be sufficient to keep the fuel level in the float chamber at the correct level. Loss of performance is the result. A ball valve petcock with a really good flow rate is the solution.

Leaking Stock Petcocks

The venerable 50s' petcock just won't seal, the operating spindle through the tank doesn't fit into its counterpart, and the use of the appropriate straightening tool doesn't work either? At this point he alternative from the Bates range helps. Install the adapter and the appropriate tap and everything is sealed again, with more flow on top of that.

Different threads

Not every aftermarket gas tank has a petcock thread that matches the stock petcock. Before buying a tank, you can find out about the thread in our webshop and order a selection of suitable cocks at the same time. By the way, if you own a tank of unknown origin and want to know what kind of thread it has, you can find information about threads on our website.

No space for a petcock?

If the tank is placed so low above the engine that there is absolutely no room for a tap with a lever, outlet and pipe, a tap that you build in the rubber line — or directly to the carburetor.
