Fuel Valves

Where the fuel exits: fuel valves

Because float needle valves can become leaky due to vibration and wear, the owner of a carburetor-fed Harley-Davidson is better off relying on a petrol tap. Fuel cocks open and close the flow of gas, and many models also have a reserve position. The reserve quantity is sufficient to find the next gas pump, at least in more populated areas of the world.

For Harley models to 1982, we offer detailed reproductions of the original fuel taps. Custom fuel taps with a larger opening, different pipe connections or threads to the tank are available from well-known manufacturers such as Bates, Accel or Pingel.

Fuel valve problems: can fuel valves be repaired?

For fuel taps with a tapered connection, the thread to the tank can be resealed. Threadlocker with PTFE content or PTFE tape have proven effective here. For the other fuel taps with a straight thread, the seal to the tank can be replaced. The internals of the Prism Supply and Pingel petcocks can also be repaired.
