Footboard brackets and accessories
Harley-Davidson has used quite a few different footboard brackets on the various frames of its large and small V-twins and Singles over the decades. There are two major groups:
On the frames with single downtube in front of the engine (F and J models, Singles up to 1934, 750s from 1929 onwards), a crossbar was bolted to each of the frame tube in front of the engine and to the seat post tube, and the actual footboard holder made of spring steel with the footboard retaining blocks was bolted to the outer ends of these bars on the left and right. On double loop frames for four-speed transmissions (Knuckleheads, U-model series, Panhead, Shovelhead), the rear running board brackets were directly connected to the frame or the aluminum primary cover and the front brackets were bolted to the clutch, shift or brake base plate.
Footboard brackets and accessories: what's available at W&W Cycles?
These brackets are available as reproductions for restoration and replacement purposes, as are the matching hinge bolts and steel rivets to rivet the hinges to the actual running boards.
As a period-correct accessory, Strange Bird's extensions fit the rectangular boards in place of the passenger pegs. There are also running board risers for the speedseekers.
