Early clutch springs for foot clutches and "Mousetraps" are stronger than the later springs for hand clutches. The stronger spring negatively affects the cable-operated actuation (from 1968 on Harley-Davidson Big Twins). Therefore, if you experience clutch problems, it’s always worth checking the clutch springs.
