¡Vrooomos a la Playa!
Low flying Harleys! Hot Rod alert on the beach!
Finding the right spot to stage a classic 40s and 50s style beach racing event is tough, but the National Street Rod Association Spain found just the location to start it: L'Estartit, two hours north-east of Barcelona, Spain.
According to the NRSA website, the place offers: "… maritime spirit and Mediterranean charm, and the perfect setting to indulge our passion: a wide, fine sandy beach, the Mediterranean as a backdrop, and the iconic Medes Islands creating a unique landscape."
L’Estartit? Si! Let’s start it. To keep things nice and mellow, this is a 1/8-mile fun run event for period cars and motorcycles. No car younger than 1953 vintage, no bike younger than 1961. The brands don’t matter, as long as they are loud and fast, and of course old and groovy.
From this the regulations flow:
no actual contest, no times clocked, no ranking. Just go for the hell of it.
To keep everything tied in with the 40s / 50s theme, the vehicles must be as period correct as possible, including period modifications, hop ups etc. The same goes for the riders: only vintage helmets, gloves, goggles, even boots. If you want to enter the racers' enclosure, you will have to dress up with period correct attire, slacks, shirts, jackets, hairdos etc. OK, breathe: if you can’t find the real thing, credible reproductions are acceptable.
Enough of the banter, here comes the race action: ¡Vrooomonos!
