On kickstart-only bikes the starter mechanism should be inspected on a regular basis. The gears involved are prone to wear and if neglected will leave you stranded at the roadside sooner or later. Especially the starter gear bushing should be in good order because it will ruin your mainshaft quickly when it runs beyond tolerances and the gear starts to tumble. Since this bushing is critical and most products on the market do not meet the requirements by material and specs, the Wrecking Crew decided to have this part made in Germany. CNC machined from industrial red bronze to closest specs, with the correct oil groove and chamfer. This is the correct part - period. Press-in, ream to size, install and you are all set, with peace of mind.

In the original and many aftermarket kicker covers, one kicker shaft bushing is pressed in from both the outside and another one from the inside, with the seal (a cork ring with a rectangular cross-section or a thin O-ring) placed between them. BAKER has simplified and thus improved the design in its kicker covers. There is a 2” long bronze bushing, with the seal sitting on the outside under the thrust washer. This ensures that the bushing is lubricated along its entire length, whereas in the original setup the outer bushing always suffers from a lack of oil.
