PS Fork Lowering Kits on 1949-1977 models
Progressive Suspension did not design this kit for 41 mm forks from 1949 to early 1977. However, an experienced customizer can still use it in these models.
To do this, the included plastic spacer must be replaced with a homemade one – preferably made of thin-walled steel tubing that fits over the vent valve. The length of the spacer depends on the desired preload.
Eliminating the valve is not really an option, as the pressure generated in this fork design can overwhelm the sealing rings.
The damper piston can be removed by sliding it upwards through the fork tube without dismantling the oil flow limiters at the bottom of the tube in order to install the rebound spring from the kit.
