Dual Leading Shoe Springer Brake
Dual Leading Shoe Springer Brake
Stopping power of stock, mechanical front brakes on Big Twins thru 1949 with springer style forks is debatable, to say the least. Improvements were difficult to achieve without major (visible) changes. This stock looking Dual leading shoe version of the factory Springer brake improves stopping power if installed correctly. Ride your classic mount with the confidence of having a brake that does what it is supposed to do, when it counts.

CRS Ceriani 180 Four Leading Shoe Brake
CRS Ceriani 180 Four Leading Shoe Brake
As we all know, the stopping power of stock Harley front drum brakes is not exactly what you really need in an emergency situation. A completely different animal, however, is the CRS reproduction of the Ceriani 180 four leading shoe drum brake. It was made for the race track and it doesn’t make a secret of it. Four cams and four leading brake shoes will dependably stop your Milwaukee steed. Two large air scoops will help with cooling everything. These mechanical masterpieces are made in small numbers using traditional workmanship, which gives them the classic appearance and power of the originals. Installation should be left to the professional mechanic as it requires fabrication of brake anchors and cable operation.

Kustom Tech Mini Front Drum Brake
Kustom Tech Mini Front Drum Brake
Mini front drum brake for choppers and other stripped-down bikes which due to its small size develops only moderate braking power. The drum is made from cast iron, a material with a high coefficient of friction. Circumferential cooling fins help to dissipate heat and yield a nostalgic look. The 130 mm inside diameter of the drum is CNC-machined to guarantee a perfect fit of the brake shoes. The two side covers are made from aluminum. Requires special spokes which are also available.

Front wheel drum brakes beyond original

The desire or consideration to replace the original front wheel drum brake with another design is fueled by two reasons: the braking performance is not adequate or the look does not fit. For those who want more braking power on the front wheel, there are duplex drum brakes with two brake cams, hydraulic drum brakes for models with Springer forks or - known from classic racing - a replica of the Ceriani racing brake, the CRS double duplex drum. Brake drums with cooling fins ensure that the Springer brake dissipates heat more quickly from the drum, instead of creating fading and loss of braking power.

A completely different approach is taken with the brake of the company Kustom-Tech, which offers passable braking performance on the basis of mass-produced brake shoes from 1980s Enduros, all housed in a super small and highly polished drum. For technical reasons, we see them of course rather in a super stripped chopper lightweight construction than in a bike of Electra Glide dimensions.
