Permatex
Here is a brief summary of Permatex's eventful history:
The company was founded in 1909, and its first product was a shellac glue for attaching bicycle tires to rims. In 1915, founder Constant A. Benoit Sr. developed a product to support surface joints in cars, which was used successfully in a 24-hour race and marked the company's entry into the automotive maintenance market. Permatex used motor sports to test and promote its products.
The company grew, moved to Kansas City in 1954, and established its headquarters in West Palm Beach in 1962. In 1972, Permatex was acquired by Loctite. In the 1980s and 1990s, Permatex expanded its product portfolio, notably with hand cleaners and tire care products.
In 1999, Permatex was acquired by a group of private investors from Loctite. The product lines and international business areas were continuously expanded.
In 2005, Permatex was acquired by Illinois Tool Works (ITW), a large American company. Under ITW, Permatex remains a leader in adhesives, sealants, and automotive care products.
