Jet helmets

A Harley rider – when it happens – rarely hits the top of the skull precisely, just like any other motorcyclist. As an improvement over the half-shell helmets that were common until then, AGV launched the first jet helmet on the market in 1956. In addition to the skull cap, the rear base of the skull as well as the side sections including the ears and jaw joint were incorporated into the helmet shell. Other helmet manufacturers, such as Bell and Davida, quickly followed suit. Because these helmets resembled what jet pilots wore at the time, the new helmet design quickly became known as the jet helmet – even though these helmets had probably never seen the inside of an aircraft cockpit.

In the 1960s, the jet helmet gradually established itself in the Harley-Davidson scene. Its open design often offered the best protection available at the time and was a practical choice. From this era comes the so-called “feeling of freedom” often associated with riding classic motorcycles. The legendary Steve McQueen was also frequently seen wearing a jet helmet. Its simple, functional, and historically significant design makes the jet helmet a timeless choice – for riders of classic Harleys as well as fans of motorcycle history.

Among our classic jet helmets are models from Bandit or Laboratori 70 (70’s) – which brings us back to Italy.
