The contact breaker in a magneto ignition cannot function without its partner, the capacitor. The capacitor in the magneto ignition prevents arcing at the contact breaker and thus protects the contact surfaces. Together with the ignition coil, it forms an electrical oscillating circuit that enhances spark generation at the spark plugs.
For this condenser to properly function breaker gap must be set to .018”.
