Nitty Gritty, Grapeland, TX
Chopper City, USA, …
… exists for just 3 days a year, bearing the proud title of "Nitty Gritty Choppercity". This derelict "ghost town" with its collection of dilapidated wooden sheds, crumbling barber shops and sagging saloons, not forgetting the jailhouse, located in Salmon Lake Park in Grapeland, Texas, USA for just one weekend came back from the Dead to party. Some 1.000 chopper addicts followed the call of the town’s founder, Eric, who’s also the owner of Harley wrenching Destroyer Garage in Houston.
So what’s on offer: a swap meet
that definitely looks like they carted the contents of a couple of forgotten barns into the location. Parts, clothing and apparel, jewelry, American food, tattoo artistry, and of course some activities trying to answer those "nitty-gritty" questions: who’ll snap the sausage, who’ll smoke his tire the hardest, who’ll manage to drag race his chop across sand and weeds the fastest, who can do the slalom round the oil drums the quickest. Oh, and who’ll find the 20 playing cards, to win some trinket from the merch stand?
Also in town for this weekend
bands, bands, bands, and, yes, bands. On top of all this a humongous bunch of old style chops with loads of them good ole timey wrenching solutions (it’s a Harley, use a hammer!) They also had a vote on the best bike in the Chopper Corral, we just kinda missed who won.
Yes – we already booked a room for next year.
