Flanders Chopper Bash, Assenede, B

Dudes with a Plan.

When the organizers finally got their act together and brought the Flanders Copper Bash back from the grave after a too long pause, they made a plan: great vibes, great fun, great bikes, bands to warm your heart and make you dance, and old friends you hadn't seen in a very long while.

So we grabbed our long-forked pony Black Beauty, packed up a booth tent with a few parts from our catalog, and headed off to Assenede, Belgium, just about 30 klicks north of Gent to find out if our memories of the Chopper Bash were still valid after the few years pause they had to take there.

Sure thing they were alive and kicking

at the Bash, with visitors from 22 countries, enough space for everyone, a few rules and a limited ticket supply the organizers had made sure people were having a darn good time. Loads of fine choppers with plenty of road grime from the long ride to the Bash were on hand; shooting the breeze with old pals, having well chilled beers with some Proost! A votre santé! Salud! Salute! Cheers! going on; shops, ink artists, food and drink to keep you going.

Did we mention the bikes?

A sea of Pans, Knucks and Shovels in the show field told of the unlimited energy and ingenuity of builders from miles around - no other vehicles allowed. A few flatties and barely anything not out of Milwaukee rounded out the picture. And faster than you could say starter solenoid this high octane weekend was over, our hangovers already forgotten and the year-long wait for the next Flanders Chopper Bash had started.
