The Cyclo Secret
First Rule of Cyclo Party: DO NOT talk about Cyclo Party! Mum was the word, when “Gruppo Cyclo” started sharing the GPS coordinates of the idyllic campground / secret location where the long-standing, close-knit Gruppo Cyclo“ planned to gather again, as is their custom once every two years.
And so, on a Friday in June, the members of this small motorcycle community shook, rattled and roared into the grounds we're not supposed to mention, braving rain showers and sunshine, coming from all over Germany and Liechtenstein, from the Black Forest, from Wilhelmshaven, from the Oderbruch, from Lower and Middle Franconia. A few even crossed the oceans: “Tommy Chop Shop” came all the way from Australia, Aris found his way from Baltimore, and John crossed the Channel coming from England.
Just as all over the place
as the license plates were the bikes: from the ratty stripped-down Knucklehead to Evo Sporties in varying degrees of customization, all the way to the beige painted, stock-condition, Evo full-dresser. Rumour has it that even non Milwaukee brands dared to venture onto the double secret grounds. Because: all brands were welcome.
Friday wound down with everyone settling in, exchanging long time no sees!, sharing stories from the long two years since the last meet, and enjoying drinks with predictably deleterious effects.
Blessed is he who knows how to control himself, for on Saturday a large group had planned to set off on the Cyclo Run along the most winding country roads Germany has to offer. Even hardened big mileage Big Twin riders were impressed by the never ending twisties. Where's the Autobahn when you need it :)
To unwind, the evening then
proceeded in a rather no-frills, loud, and fast manner thanks to the band with the un-Googlable name: the Oberrieder Zipfibriader, who are four young guys from Nether Bavaria who know how to bring down the house. Great fun and a long evening for everyone.
On the Sunday, we all vowed to meet again in two years, fueling up with some hearty food on the way home at Bräu Wirt in Amberg: Cheers, an guadn, and DON'T TALK ABOUT CYCLO PARTY! C U @ Cyclo 2028!
