Texas - One Lone Star? We give 'em 5!

Everything is bigger in Texas, starting with our anticipation of the Born Free Show, Lone Star edition. For the third time now the iconic chopper party fills the bowl-like Yellow Rose Canyon, somewhere in the back of beyond between Mt. Enterprise and Henderson. If you're not familiar with the neighbourhood, it's 150 miles out of Dallas, Tx, just short of the Louisiana state line.

Born Free Texas is four full days of beer, bands

and binge watching bikes, making for a much more relaxed vibe than the Californian 2-day high octane version.

Here it's more like a bbq in the park with your best buddies. You roll in on your chop, and one of the group brings a pickup truck with all the heavy (and liquid) equipment. Arrive, set up your tent. Let everything else just happen. Food, hot coffee, showers, toilets, they have it all. They even have a bar. When you feel like it you take a stroll round the grounds, there's so much to see: the builders' list is longer than any far out custom front end. There are top notch builds in all conceivable stages of customization or stockification.

That's true not only for the show bikes,

the metal the visitors rode in on is also worthy of some deeper scrutiny. Which is the general idea; the whole zoo is open for friendly inspection, and every bike has surprising details to discover. The soundtrack from the stage makes the experience complete.

If you like it louder and faster, you might check out the flat track racing and watch bikes of many classes kick up the dust on the oval, or you watch the over-confident lose control in the dirt drag contest, browse greasy parts in the AMCA swap meet, grab a snack, have another tattoo added to your collection, get a new trucker hat or just catch a few z's in your tent.

As we didn’t come here just for

holiday fun we brought a couple of our most famous parts - and proof that "we ride what we sell": our gorgeous Baja Twins. They're always a sure fire conversation starter. So our trip to Texas proves to be good fun all round, and we give a full five-star review to the Lone Star State - not least because they're home to Born Free Texas!
