Wild & Watery

The other day round the Nethen wakeboarding lake and the adjacent neighbourhood it was all about speed, sun, sand and fun.

Flat Track Friday

Open wide and go left. As part of the German Flat Track Cup the cubic inch cowboys on hand were threshing their gasoline guzzlers round the Moorwinkeldamm oval. Several classes were needed to pair the Harley XR 750, 1948 HD WR, WL, BSA, etc against the most worthy opponents. Two guys from the W&W crew were competing in the Newbie class and had their beefed up bikes ready for action, a Harley Sportster and a 500 cc SR Yamaha. They did us proud: no injuries, slicing through the curves just so, no mechanical hiccups and best of all the track was still usable after their laps :) Let’s see where the flat track fever will lead them …

Sand Digging Saturday

Over from the oval to catapult-ish acceleration. The world’s only 1/32 mile championship drag racing (on sand!) got underway, causing the spectator crowds to go completely off the rocker. Along all of the full 50,29 meters of the track. Mind bending mods were fishtailing across the soft sand, starting with the "Enduro Shovel" by Bike Farm Melle and not stopping with the Yamaha R1 on special sand tires. The real heroes though were the riders on almost-non-existent-displacement mopeds, battling tooth and nail in the "24 Minutes of Nethen". Around all this a party was rocking the beach, with only short rain-outs everybody tried to ignore. After the thunder, the beach disco, the food stalls, the bands, the much loved DJ Fusel all came alive again full tilt.

Sundays are for Survivors

Kill your hangover with hair-raising sand sprints for the grand finale. The flat track winners got their well deserved tin trophies, and the noobs went home to headquarters in one piece. Next year: Nethen! Wild and watery a must. Or sun and fun, we don’t mind either way.
