2018 - Dutch Kick Off

2018 - Dutch Kick Off

Premiering a major contender in the international custom bike show circuit is never easy. The dudes behind the first ever Matchlight Motorcycle Show got it right first hit though. Just one sec, Matchlight? Because of “Matching Numbers”? No, because Eindhoven used to be a major centre of matchstick production in the last century. Do you see the light? Well they did, as you can see. They found a top venue, lured the best vintage bikes to Eindhoven and the weather played along brilliantly. The former Philips factory was just right to house a skate park, a host of vendors for everything style related, rest areas, much needed refreshment vans and stalls and a smallish but excellently curated collection of custom bike jewels. The „Klokgebouw Cultuurhallen“ turned out to be just the place to be on a Sunday. A one-way-trafic system had been set up, so it was easy for visitors on their bikes to parade around a little and fill the air with the sweet smell of burnt gasoline and hot rubber, to the delight of a youngish audience who had turned up in large numbers.

Inside the buzz was somewhat

subdued, centering around the excellent choice of beautifully built vintage bikes, displayed as works of art, not unlike the Basel „Art & Wheels“. Small wonder that „Art & Wheels“ organiser Vinz took home the „Best of Show“ award, and that quite a few of the exhibits had also been seen at Basel. As usual when bike aficionados meet, there was a fair choice of pinstripers, photographers, graffiti artistes and other fast and loud art forms on hand. The wacky “Jerrycan Artshow” (using fuel cans as canvas) brought even more original creativity to an already awesome premiere day at Eindhoven, at the Matchlight Motorcycle Show.
