Big Twin 1936-1948, Servi-Car 1941-1957, WLC

Harley-Davidson Big Twins from 1936 (Knucklehead and Flathead U models), Servi-Cars from 1941.

These models with Springer forks had 180 mm diameter (7-1/8") brake drums bolted to the hubs. By comparison, the brake linings seem downright tiny. With 151 mm radius, they use just over half of the inner circumference of the drum. This may be one reason why the drum brake variant, usually referred to as a Springer brake, is not exactly known for outstanding stopping power.

Brakes and brake parts

W&W Cycles offers complete front brake reproductions and all individual components for the Knuckles, Big Twin Flatheads, very first Panhead and Servi-Cars. This includes brake drums, brake shoes, brake base plates and brake cams. Plus matching actuators such as brake levers, brake cables, mounting hardware and axle bushings.

Improved braking performance

For those who want more braking power, there is a duplex brake system with two brake cams or the hydraulically actuated Cannonball drum brake. Based on the standard 180 mm drum, this results in more braking performance.
