Oil Pumps

Oil pumps and spare parts

Complete oil pumps for sidevalve models from 1937 onwards and ohv models with air-cooled V-Twin engine from Harley-Davidson, as well as individual spare and small parts such as springs, strainers, gear wheels, disk springs, keys and valves ... For the faithful restoration of IOE models 1928 and 1929 and SV models 1929-1936, we offer reproductions of the oil pump covers. This not only ensures the "period-correct look", but also provides adequate protection for the pump's adjustment mechanism in case of a spill. We have the right seals and seal kits for all oil pumps that are leaking or in need of repair.

The oil pump, an often misunderstood part

The first Harley-Davidson models had drip feed oil lubrication, supported by a hand pump from 1913, which was used to feed additional lubricant into the engine under heavy load or at high speed. The oil supply was heavily dependent on the rider's attention.

The engine-driven mechanical oil pump from 1915 was a real progress and was the object of constant further development at Harley-Davidson. However, the rider still had to keep an eye on the oil supply until 1936, as the engines all ran with total-loss oil lubrication. Some of the oil was burned, some was simply released into the atmosphere via the ventilation or the bearings.

Dry sump circulation lubrication was introduced with the Knucklehead in 1936 and for all other models in 1937. Instead of simply disposing of it, the oil was collected in the crankcases and returned to the oil tank by a second pump. Apart from the models with "Revolution" in their name, Harley-Davidson motorcycles still have dry sump lubrication and two oil pumps today, albeit usually in one housing.
