Belstaff

In 1924, Eli Belovitch founded the company in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The first part of his last name and the first part of Staffordshire formed the brand name Belstaff. The original product line consisted of waterproof garments for men and women. With the „Wax Cotton“, consisting of very fine Egyptian cotton fabric treated with natural oils, Belstaff became the first company in the world to use a fabric that was totally waterproof but breathable. During the Thirties Belstaff advanced in making technical garments resistant to heavy friction and with this material Belstaff eventually specialised in the creation of high technology wear for the protection of the motorcyclist. 1991 the English textile industry crisis involved Belstaff but thanks to some clients’ and some technicians’ firm intention not to let the legend die, the production went on in a factory in Wellimborough In 1996 Franco Malenotti joined with his Clothing Company spa in order to speed up Belstaff return to the tops. Today Belstaff has succeeded in opening worldwide markets and is currently the only manufacturer producing high technology jackets in 100% natural fabrics.
