Grip Assemblies

Twist grip mechanism - mechanical innards for the handlebars.

For many decades, a Harley handlebar was not simply a tube onto which handles were slipped on the left and right. The ends of the handlebars were shaped, fitted with slots and threads, etc., so that the handlebars housed the mechanics that converted the rotational movement of the grips into linear action. All the innards such as slides or sliding blocks, the twist grips with the spiral guides inside and the screws are here: nicely sorted by year of manufacture. Because, as the Factory is and was, the entire model range was always converted from one actuation system to the other. Of course, from 1974 onwards, we can only list parts for the throttle mechanism.

Are the mechanical parts interchangeable?

Sliding blocks and set screws are partly the same over decades, but the actual twist grips are always specific for the respective year of manufacture, ergo not interchangeable.

Applies only for handlebars with smooth ends: throttle grips for a throttle cable or for throttle and return cables or complete custom parts from AMAL, Biltwell, Kustom Tech, Prism ... are interchangeable, each together with the sleeve. So if you replaced your handlebars on your Springer fork with a set of Stelling & Hellings risers along with a Bates Ventura handlebar, you'll find them on throttle grips from 1974-up. But maybe you call us again. Then we can recommend a matching Bates carburetor linkage.
