Rear Wheel Stands

Rear wheel stand

Even the Harleys from the 1900s and 1910s (so just after the Factory was founded) had mounts for a folding stand at the rear ends of the frame. The very first Harley-Davidson motorcycles had neither kickstarter nor clutch or transmission. That's why, in addition to the parking function, the rear wheel stand played a central role in starting the engine: the bike was lifted on the folding stand, so the rear wheel was off the ground and you could start with the fuel tap open, prime the cylinders, tighten the belt and start frantically pedaling.

If something is good, you leave it at that. Thus, the rear wheel stand, had a good 54-year history, before it simply had to be omitted for technical reasons when, the rear swingarm was introduced together with problem when a tire change was due.

Rusty, bent and unstable originals can be replaced by the restorer today with suitable and well manufactured reproductions of The Cyclery or Samwel.
