2018 - A as in Awesome

2018 - A as in Awesome

This disused part of Waterloo station is now the home of skateboarding aficionados House of Vans, who have made these railway arches under the tracks their home. Here they celebrate street art, skateboarding, music, BMX, and streetwear. OK, what’s all this got to do with Harleys …

There being a big overlap between the above activities and riding custom Harleys, House of Vans did the right thing, and gave the Assembly Show of custom bikes a temporary home in their awesome subterranean halls for the second time now. There was of course a ton of spraying, styling and skating going on, but the impressive halls, ramps and bowls had no chance against the bikes. They were the heroes for a night.

Which of course may have been a result

of some big names of chopper building having been invited: Max Schaaf, USA, of 4Q, Ryan Grossman of Vintage Dreams, USA, Cycle Zombies, USA, John Copeland, USA, Andy of Flying Choppers, Finland … The organizers must have rounded up all Knuckleheads in the British Isles, stylishly framed by Panheads and Shovels, Brit and Japanese bikes.

The Saturday was jam packed, so we took the somewhat more relaxed Sunday to shoot some pix, see the many stalls and chat with builders. There was even a cinema, showing “Halfway to Nowhere” by Tim Caraco.

A happy ending for us seeing this fantastic show, and making our way there. We’ll be there again next year for the 3rd edition for sure.
