Fasten Bowden cables

Bowden cable holders, guides and clamps are not only for tidiness, they also have a physical-technical side. Already in the patent drawing of Mr. Bowden's invention you can see that the cable sheath is fixed to the base plate with a small clamp at the apex of the bow. There is a reason for this: the cable sheath provides support and guidance for the inner cable, but must itself be attached to the frame or the Springer fork, because it in turn needs support points. On many bikes, you see the long Bowden cable from the handbrake lever down to the jumper drum brake hanging freely in the air. If such a rider complains about a lack of braking action, all you have to do is tell him to use the small thread on the left fork tube and use a clamp to tighten the cable there. Suddenly, the hand force is no longer wasted uselessly in the "flabby" cable sheath, but is properly transferred to the cable. The trick also works with the Hydra Glide fork or the long clutch cable of the FLH.

Of course, Bowden cables can be secured to the frame and fork with cable ties or Velcro strips, but reproductions of the original, usually parkerized, cable clamps and guides are actually indispensable for a good restoration.
