Keihin Butterfly Carburetors

Related Topics

During the period when the Motor Company belonged to the AMF Group, more and more parts from Japanese suppliers were used: instruments from Nippon Seiki, front forks from Kayaba and Showa - and butterfly carburetors from Keihin. Harley-Davidson relied on the gas factory from Shinjuku for almost 14 years.

The Keihin butterfly carburetor

is designed for reliability and moderate consumption. It may not necessarily be known as a top performer, but it gets the Shovelhead or the Ironhead Sportster from A to B reliably. And with the correct setting, the Harley always starts. The Achilles heel of the Keihin throttle body carburetor was rather the permanent downsizing by Harley-Davidson itself (due to the emission values) or the inadequate tuning attempts of hobbyists. Similar to the Tillotson carburetor, the Keihin throttle body carburetor also requires a high level of technical understanding.

Unfortunately, Keihin throttle valve carburetors are no longer produced. Therefore, we can only offer jets for tuning and spare parts. Repair kits or individual gaskets and sealing rings can of course also be found here, as well as cool accessories from Bates and The GasBox. Or you can try a Thunderjet for the Keihin throttle body carburetor.
