Throttle Cables 1974→

Throttle cables from 1974

Regardless of how the cables are screwed or clipped into the throttle grip, they are always external throttle cables. The throttle sleeve and grip are pushed onto the outside of the handlebar end, the throttle sleeve housing is secured with two screws. Depending on the connection to the throttle grip clamp, threaded throttle cables are required (up to 1995) or those for clipping in (from model year 1996). Accessory throttle grips sometimes have their own system to accommodate the throttle cable.

Which throttle cable do I need?

First, you can choose the cable by year and model. We list each throttle cable model, year of manufacture and length. (Sometimes you need excess length).

Because not all Harleys are original and because the original cable lengths do not fit for every handlebar, you can also select the throttle cables by technical features:

  • connection to the throttle grip (1974-1980: thread 1/4", 1981-1995 throttle cable thread 5/16" and return cable 1/4", from 1996 on for clipping in with throttle cable Ø 1/4" and return cable 7/32")
  • the angle of the length adjusters
  • and the carburetor end (nipple, or for clamping).

For all throttle cables, our shop provides easy to read drawings and tables. And yes: most of our throttle cables for 1974 and later models come from Barnett. Just look for the logo on the respective web page.
