2019 - Matchlight, Eindhoven, NL

After checking out the Flanders Chopper Bash in Belgium we rolled a few miles over to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

The 2nd Matchlight Motorcycle Show is the perfect extension of the Chopper Bash. Outstanding bikes, but this time under a roof. Around 30 machines were on exhibit, many Harleys, but metric stuff as well, lovingly chosen, no, curated.

There was incredible detail to be appreciated, starting at the handcrafted rocker boxes and not stopping with the mile-deep paint jobs, with hundreds of hours spent on getting it just right.

The Klokgebouw building, sitting in the old Philips compound, contained not just art on motorcycles but also art on canisters. As an hommage to tattoo legend Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins, they had put out the word, and 13 artists had responded with stunning works of can art.

The walls were hung with artworks as well, and there were pinstripers, engravers, merchandise stalls next to the giant skater hall. Outside, there was a huge market, refreshment stalls and all, so we could go on well fuelled to check out the bikes outside as well, some of them clearly on the same level of craftsmanship with the ones inside. A few friendly nods to people we had seen only yesterday at the Chopper Bash, and all of a sudden it was over, this friendly, wonderful weekend for friends of the wrench.
