Sundry accessories for fenders - Mud flaps, cable ducts, end tips.

Mud flaps. To properly protect the Harley rider from the splashing water coming from the front wheel, the front fenders would have to be (actually and technically) even more voluminous than they already are on some models. So the Factory was looking for a compromise between style and design on the one hand and protection on the other. Also to be considered were the additional cost of more steel. Let's leave it at that. If the splash guard on the front fender of your J-model, 750, Duo, Hydra or Electra Glide etc. wasn't enough, you would have been using a flexible protection made of leather or rubber since the 1900s. Old photos prove that. And such a splash guard has enough surface to be decorated, if you wish.

Cable ducts. With the first electric tail light the question "Where to put the wires?" arises. That's why most original fenders feature steel tubes on the underside, to cover and protect the taillight wiresh. In the 1960s, the braided cotton sleeve became a flexible plastic tube. But you still had to secure the conduit in steel tabs. On Harley-Davidson Touring models, however, there has been a cool part since 2011, for which there are of course other uses: the flexible, self-adhesive plastic cable duct. Another cool detail from Harley. And the 3D Scotch tape really sticks, provided the paint is grease-free.

End tips. Rear fenders on Harleys with rear swingarm are originally attached to struts. To give the fender struts a nicer appearance, end caps can be used to great effect. On Softails of the 1990s they are original.
