Fat Bob Dash Panels

Speedometer consoles aka dashboards

The speedometer alone is not enough. Oil control light, ampèremeter or charge control, idle control, turn signal control lights ... at least on the series production Harley-Davidson fresh from the store, all control elements should be on it, so that the customer keeps the overview. So the way led from the first speedometer cover in skull design over different stations with a growing number of control lights ("two light", "three light" ;-) ) to the consoles of the Softails and Touring models of the 90s and 00s.

Fat Bob base plates

The speedometer sits on the plate and the on the frame, that's the basic arrangement. There is even a feedthrough for the speedo shaft in the cast steering head of the original frames, the threaded receptacles for the base plate are also integrated on the casting. When the tanks are removed, the speedometer with base plate remains in place: all in all, we are dealing with a pretty well thought-out design. This is also how the uniform look comes about, as if from a single casting, which characterizes the Harley-Davidson Big Twins. All the copyists among the Far East cruiser builders (Vulcan, Dragstar, Shadow ...) never managed to do that.

Baseplates and covers at W&W Cycles

Skull, Cat Eye, Two and Three Light for Knucklehead, Panhead and Early Shovels, as well as the one with the five indicator lights for Electra Glide and Softail are to be distinguished. There are good reproductions of the covers and base plates for all types. Ignition locks, to complete the selection, are of course also available. Reset knobs, mounting parts including spacers and plugs complete the selection.
