With the introduction of the Hydra-Glide fork in 1949, Harley-Davidson Big Twin motorcycles also received a new, improved front brake, which was also used on Servi-Cars from 1958. The inner brake drum diameter increased by 0.5 ", but most importantly, the friction lining area was 60% larger than in Springer forks. Just compare the brake linings from The Cyclery. Of course, the deceleration values of a brake increase not only with the diameter of the disc or drum, but also with the pad area.
