Starter Systems for 45”/750 cc Flatheads

Electric start for side valve models

A long time privilege for Servi-Cars after 1964, but with our kits you can have this comfort also on all earlier models from 1941 onwards. These models had the new type clutch with the 10 studs and three adjusting nuts. After installation, you then just press the starter button and your chreished Flattie starts effortlessly - provided the carburetor is well adjusted.

By the way, there are Cannonball electric start systems for the big side-valves from 1937-up.

Why should I e-start my Flattie?

Starting a long-stroker like Harley-Davidson's air-cooled V-engines with the kicker can be tedious. At the very least, sweaty. The choke position must be correct, the position of the throttle and ignition handles must be right, and the top dead center must also be felt. The electric starter is not interested in the dead center, it pulls away confidently above it, and due to the higher crankshaft speed, the mixture formation in the carburetor is also better. The die-hard biker will possibly stock to his kick staretr system forever, but if you're starting to think it over... hmmm ... you might be a good candidate for this conversion. And all who have it installed it, quite honestly, do not turn back, even with a lower compression side-valve motorcycle.
